Dear SF Bay Area ACBS Community,

It was a pleasure connecting with many of you at Healing the Healer: Mindfulness and Self-Compassion for Therapists last Thursday. We appreciated attendees' meaningful reflections on the practices and breakout groups.

Given that many interested were unable to attend due to timing and the popularity of our first session, we are offering another edition of this free virtual event on Saturday, August 15th 10am-12pm PT. We are hoping this time may work better for parents who could not do the weeknight time. We will lead the group in the same mindfulness and self-compassion practices and small breakout groups as the last session. Please contact Emily Wharton at ewharton@stanford.edu for any questions.

Our intention is to take time to come together as a community and focus on taking care of ourselves as therapists and people. We will gather together to practice mindfulness and self-compassion and discuss our experiences in small groups. We recognize that the past several months have been a trying time for many, with the COVID-19 pandemic and incidents of police brutality and racism. Given that many of you have been focused on caring for loved ones and clients amid these challenges, we are hoping this space can be a place of caring for yourself.

The mindfulness and self-compassion practices will be guided by SF Bay Area ACBS board member Emily Wharton, M.S. Emily is an incoming Psychology Intern at Palo Alto Veterans Affairs from the PGSP-Stanford PsyD Consortium. She has facilitated a Mindfulness for Employee Self-care four-part training series at Seneca Center, and has provided guest lectures on ACT for Anxiety Disorders and OCD, ACT for Mood Disorders, ACT for Anxiety in Veterans, Mindfulness for Children, Emotionally-Focused Therapy for Couples, Group Trauma-Focused CBT, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.  Emily has published papers and book chapters on ACT for PTSD, ACT for moral injury, mindfulness practices for anxiety disorders, and group trauma-focused CBT for parents of preterm infants.

We are looking forward to connecting with you all!
